Mesonephric Adenocarcinoma of the Female Urethra

ABSTRACT
A case of urethral mesonephric adenocarcinoma in 55-year-old female patient is reported. Patient presented with the symptom of acute urinary retention. On the digital vaginal examination, a egg-sized mass was palpated around urethra. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging showed a 6x6x7cm sized mass encircling the proximal to distal portion of urethra. Histologic examination of trans-vaginal fine needle aspiration biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma. Under the diagnosis of urethral carcinoma, anterior pelvic extenteration with formation of ileal pouch was performed. The tumor consisted mainly of small, elongated glands of single-layered cuboidal cells with round nucleus and a focal hobnail appearance. The tumor was immunoreactive for cytokeratin 7 and 20, EMA, CAM5.2. No immunostaining was detected with CEA, PR, ER, calretinin. (Korean J Uro-Oncol 2003; 1:382-385)
